Straight Edge Campaign

  1. Is anyone in these videos over 21?

  2. Yes, Neal—many of us who are in that were over 21 at the time. I'm 38 and still straight edge (and vegan). My friend's DJ and Toby, also in that, are over 40 and still straight edge and vegan/vegetarian. Not everybody casts their ideals aside when they become legally able to drink.

  3. Glen: the reason these commercials never aired is because PDFA was at the time largely funded by the alcohol and tobacco industries. When the financial backers realized that Straight Edge rejected their own products in addition to illegal drugs and narcotics, they pressured PDFA into killing the commercials, which they did. Shortly thereafter, PDFA distanced themselves from those industries (whether or not it had anything to do with what transpired with these commercials, I do not know).

  4. Humans will always take drugs. And my thoughts are.. why not provide them through state by state regulated dispensaries? Crime will always be there so that's not the reason. Money? well yeah we could use the tax revenue to fund education and detox clinics/recovery programs etc...Harm reduction is the biggest reason to decriminalize and legalize certain drugs. Provide education, pharmaceutical grade products, and safe places out of the public eye for users to safely use. I am straight edge because that is what works for me.It just seems stupid that we are letting the black market capitalize on something we could tax for the purpose of improving our society as it(Drug War) will just get worse before it gets any better. My opinion.

  5. I too am straight edge and pro-legalization, although let's not fool ourselves—that too will come with a host of problems.
